Are these custom orthotics? No. You cannot get true custom foot orthotics over the internet; you would need to visit your local podiatrist. Superfeet™ composite orthotics are the closest you can get to custom devices. Many of my patients have not needed to use my custom orthotics because the Superfeet versions are so effective. Superfeet composites have been developed over 25 years with 40 patents by Superfeet's sister company Northwest Podiatric Laboratory, one the premier custom orthotic labs in the United States. Why should I buy these?Because they work. Being a board-certified podiatrist with a full time practice, I have seen all sorts of products and tried many myself. They work because of their design. They are designed by podiatrists and have been in use for 25 years. They look too hard. They are designed to be supportive, not soft and mushy like most insoles. The deep heel cup keeps your natural fat pad under the heel for maximum shock absorption. They actually do it better than the soft gel insoles. Your feet need firm but comfortable support to function properly. Will they fit into most of my shoes? At 1.5 mm thick you cannot find a thinner device. If ordered with padding, it increases thickness slightly, but you have a selection to choose from. Any orthotic performs best in a lace up shoe, but the Superfeet composite family will fit in virtually any shoe. The Dressette device are for shoes with heel height between 2 and 4 inches. How long will they last? The orthotic itself — the firm composite material — can last several years. It is dependent on many factors such as the person's weight, activity level, and quality of shoe. The padded top cover, if ordered, may begin to show signs of wear sooner. One thing is certain: they will last many times longer than a soft mushy device. What about the gel inserts I always see? These gel inserts do not support the foot and arch, and therefore don't take tension off the plantar fascia. There is always some new gel or soft insert being sold. When their feet hurt most people think "I need something soft." Once they have tried one those insoles or heel pads and see that it does not work, they usually end up in a podiatrist's office like mine. What about magnets?Magnets have not been proven to heal plantar fasciitis or any other type foot pain. They provide no support to the arch and heel. No matter what your neighbor or co-worker says they did for them, I do not recommend them. Are there any guarantees that these will heal me?I can make no guarantees that these will heal you. This is simply a fact of medicine. Everyone responds differently and one never knows what to expect. I can say very few of my patients return these orthotics. However, if you think you need a different size, or would like to change the style, see our return policy. What happens if they do not work? You should see your podiatrist or regular physician. Although the most common cause of heel pain is plantar fasciitis, there are other causes. Additional, more aggressive, treatments may be needed. Only your doctor can guide you through this process. There are so many products, how do I know which is best?I started this web site precisely because I see so many inferior products available to my patients. These products come from the "mall" stores and from mail-order catalogs. The people who run these businesses have no medical training whatsoever, and often need to change business names after several years because of their poor reputation.Superfeet composite orthotics are designed by a professional podiatric orthotic lab and are used by practicing doctors such as myself. I recommend these devices every day in my practice.
